1) Giants +7 @ Vikings

JUSTIFICATION: The Giants have a knack of going into Minnesota and knocking off the Vikings. Last season, the Vikes started 6-0 only to lose to the Giants, at home, 29-17. On the Giants two previous trips to Minnesota, they also won. The Vikes will probably have to play with a limited Randy Moss and are facing a really tough Giants defense. Arguably, the toughest defense the Vikes have faced so far this season. The Giants stumbled last week versus Detroit so they will be motivated to bounce back and prove that they are not a fluke this season. I'm looking for another straight up Giant victory in this game.


2) Lions +3 @ Cowboys

JUSTIFICATION: The Lions are a team on the rise and the Cowboys appear to be a team on the decline. The Lions have their RB Jones back which should allow them to control the clock and control the flow of the game. The Cowboys have no rushing attack whatsoever which forces QB Testeverde into some very tough situations. The Lions are riding high after a surprising victory over the Giants, the Cowboys stunk the place up against Green Bay last week. I'm going to take the points and ride the hot team. A straight up victory is in the cards for the Lions.


3) Colts -1 @ Chiefs

JUSTIFICATION: This is a matchup between two weak defenses and two good offenses. The Chiefs were awesome last week, posting a 56-10 win over Atlanta. They have not shown that they can do that on a consistent basis though. The Colts have won the seven previous meetings between these two teams and have won a game in Kansas City three times in the last four years.  So, the fans at Arrowhead Stadium don't intimidate the Colts. I expect the Chiefs to revert to early season form and the Colts to win a high scoring affair, but not as high as the 57 spread that's posted.


4) 49ers +1 1/2 @ Bears

JUSTIFICATION: The 49ers have played pretty well of late, even against good teams like the Jets. The Bears have struggled mightily since QB Quinn took over the helm. The 49ers will have a lot of confidence going into this game, the Bears will be very cautious, wanting to play a very conservative game in the hopes of keeping it close at the end. Rattay has started to play better and the confidence that he has combined with the total lack of confidence the Bears have in QB Quinn will make the difference in this game.
49ers win by double digits.


5) Redskins +2 vs. Packers

JUSTIFICATION: The Packers have played better of late and the Redskins have played pretty poorly. But, the Redskins defense is sound and has kept them in a lot of games this year. The offense has been the problem for the Skins and, fortunately, they play a very weak Packers defense this week. The Skins have had a week off to prepare for the game and I have to expect that Joe Gibbs will have done something to fix the offensive woes his team has endured. There is also a very important stat that comes into play in this game. When the Redskins win their last home game before a Presidential election, the incumbent stays in office. When they lose, the challenger wins the office. This stat has held true since 1936. You can bet that their will be an inordinate amount of coverage regarding this game. A lot of Republicans are big Redskin fans this weekend. Skins win outright.
