There were a
few line moves this week, but all of them were
predictable. Let's run them down:
New England
moved from an 8 point road favorite against
Cleveland to a 10 point favorite. The reason
has nothing to do with the QB questions at
Cleveland, but in the departure of Butch Davis.
Some people predict that the Browns will just
roll over the rest of the season, and I am one
of them.
Detroit has
move from a 4 point favorite at home versus
Arizona to a 6 point favorite. This is due to a
QB change. amblers tend to shy away from
betting on teams that have a new QB, for
whatever the reason the change has been made.
Navarre may end up being a great QB, but usually
they have to take their lumps first.
In the Kansas
City/Oakland game, the more likely that Green
will play for KC, the smaller the line gets.
Oakland's game against Denver can be viewed as
a fluke, and I don't see that victory starting a
trend in Oakland. They are not a very good
team. The line will move away from Oakland if it
can be justified at all.
One to keep an
eye on- The Jets will make the decision on
Friday if Pennington will play QB for them. If
he does, the line will stay where it is, because
the bookies have been expecting him to play. If
it's decided he will not play, the line will
drop dramatically, in my opinion. If you think
he won't play, I'd take the points now, while
you can. Either way, I think 7 points will be a
lot for the Jets to make up on Houston. I would
pick against them, with the points, no matter
what.
In the How The
Mighty Have Fallen category- The Giants are
underdogs to the Redskins. Enough said.
The Goofiest
Line Of The Week- St. Louis can't be a 10.5
point favorite against anyone. I live and work
near St. Louis, and the people here want heads
to roll. Even this late in the season, fans want
the team to dump the dead weight players, and
radio commentators have been publicly mocking
some of the team. Why would a team want to play
well under those conditions? Martz's job seems
safe, for some reason, and he insists the team
will be OK. But, that hasn't stopped him from
taking shots publicly at the team. Take SF and
the points here. In my opinion, of course.
